The Ribbon Marker Revamped!

Hello Lovelies,

As you know, I pretty much stopped blogging around September last year. The  sad news was that RL demanded more of my time than I thought it would. The good news is that I have graduated, completed my mentorship, and really got my business, The Ribbon Marker Editorial Services, off the ground.

Now that I have a better sense of how much time I need to dedicate to my work, I now have a new posting schedule, which is way better than my previous post-something-when-it-comes-to-mind schedule, and will make my life easier and give you more content.TRMR final

Yes, that’s right! The Ribbon Marker has been revamped!

August Write On Review-a-Thon!

Hello Lovelies,

So, I know I didn’t last very long during the 2015 BookTube-a-Thon. Unfortunately, I only read one and a half books and completed the challenges for the first three days. You can watch my Day 2 & 3 Wrap Up video over at my BookTube channel, and see me impersonate the voices of a few Harry Potter characters :D.

However, I still have a lot of my favorite books to review for my blog. In fact, you can check out my very long list of reviews to be written or videoed.

To help me check off a few reviews off my list, I am happy to announce that I will be participating  in the  August Write On review-a-thon!

The Write On review-a-thon is a monthly event created and hosted by Brianna at The Book Vixen. This edition it’s THREE days dedicated to getting reviews done, whether you have one review to write or 30+. This edition of the review-a-thon takes place all day Friday, August 28th and Sunday, August 30th. Let’s get those reviews done!

Considering that this takes place over a weekend, I will attempt to either video/write at least 10 reviews from my mega list of reviews. I think I might be able to smash this one out guys, fingers crossed.

We’ll see how it goes…

The Ribbon Marker BookTube Channel

Hello Lovelies!

As much as I want to finish off my favorite book reviews as fast as I can, it has been really slow going. So, because I can talk faster than I can write, I have decided to start a BookTube Channel!

For those of you who don’t know what BookTube is, BookTube is a part of the YouTube universe where dedicated readers and book reviewers converse about all things book-related. It’s a really awesome community that shares in the emotional trips & crazy adventures that books take us on.

Please check out my introductory video below to get to know me a little better, and to get a better sense of what goodies can be found on my BookTube channel.

2015 RT BookLovers Convention!

Hello Lovelies!

I am sure you have noticed a serious decline in posts during this past week. Other having a really intense week in French Class (I have learnt more than 50 verbs en Français), I have been moving, and most importantly, I have been getting ready for the 2015 RT BookLovers Convention!

The Romantic Times BookLovers Convention, held for the last 32 years, is one of the biggest annual events for networking and interacting with, and learning from, various publishing industry professionals. The convention has a unique mixture of learning workshops, dedicated to various publishing topics, and fanciful, crazy parties and events, where book addicts, like myself, have the opportunity to meet other book junkies, authors, and get lots (and lots) of swag!

This year, the RT BookLovers Convention is being held in Dallas, Texas, from May 12th to May 17th. There are so many interesting events, that I have knowingly over-scheduled my time (as impractical as that may be). The workshops I am most looking forward to include: Structuring to SELL Insider Secrets for Creating a Story Guaranteed to Breakout Big!, because I think it will offer a very detailed look at the editorial process;  The Writing Voice  workshop , as I will actually get to hear what editors look for in submissions and how they critique them; Being Heard: How Bloggers Can Start and Maintain a Publisher Relationship workshop, as I just started this blog and the workshop would go a long way to answer some of the questions I have about blogging; and last, but not least, Author Chat: Reality Shifters workshop, because the line up of authors is amazing (the only way that could have been better was if Laurell K. Hamilton was also a panelist). I am also really looking forward to all the parties being hosted. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know about my steampunk dress calamity (which has thankfully been resolved), and my woes of not getting my dress for the Heather Graham’s Lone Star Supernatural State party (I’ll fudge something).

This will be my first time attending the convention (actually my first convention ever), and I am ridiculously, almost spastically, excited to be attending. I am arriving a day early, to familiarize myself with the flow of the convention, and I can’t wait to get there and meet heaps of like-minded individuals.

Keep an eye out for posts and pictures from the convention, so you can share in the experience. Hopefully, I will convince you to check out the 2016 RT BookLovers Convention, which is being held in Las Vegas!

I’m off to pack!

Anita Blake Book Challenge

Hello Lovelies!

So, because I am completely crazy and I like to pretend that I don’t already have enough to do, I have decided to complete an Anita Blake Book Challenge! The challenge involves re-reading and reviewing all of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter books before the release of the next book in the series, Dead Ice, on the 9th of June. It’s an ambitious goal because I only have 45 days to re-read and review 28 books. This includes all Anita-related short stories, novellas, and full-length novels. The Release Date Countdown will help you keep track of how long I have left until the release date of Dead Ice.

Wish me luck!

Welcome to The Ribbon Marker!

Welcome to The Ribbon Marker, an editorial blog dedicated to reviewing urban fantasy and gay romance books, and pretty much anything else book or publishing related.

The site is still under construction, but I am working at it everyday. For now, you can explore my Fanfiction Favorites (fanfiction writers deserve recognition too!), and see my All-Time Favorites Book Reviews that share what I loved about various Urban Fantasy and Gay Romance authors’ books/series. You can also check out my Anticipated Reads section, with my TBR pile and Upcoming Releases pages, to share in what books I need to get around to reading (stop interrupting RL), and the books that I eagerly anticipate.

Aside from my reading obsession (though it kind of goes hand in hand), I am very much into writing. I have all these ideas running through my head, and not enough hours in the day to write them all down (or finish them). However, some persistent plot bunnies won’t leave me alone until they’ve been shared with the world, so keep an eye out for my Coup de Plume page

My upcoming Editorial Insights pages will have all kinds of nifty info on entering the publishing industry, what should go on your reference bookshelf, and other little editorial tidbits.

That’s enough about all that. Go check out what I do have on here.

Fan Fiction Favorites Now Up

I have made a little headway into updating my Fan Fiction Favorites page. You can find them there, listed by the author’s name.

I still have to do the outlines for other pages I want to add to the blog, after which I will start updating reviews.

In the mean time, take a gander at the Fan Fiction Favorites page and browse the synopses. If some tickle your fancy, have a read and tell me what you thought about them :P.

WordPress Newbie

Hello everyone!

My name is Ketshedile, but you can call me Kate (easier to spell and pronounce). I am obviously new to WordPress, but I look forward to spreading my blogging wings on here.

My blog will mostly be about my favorite hobby/soon-to-be profession: reading. I love to read. Harry Potter slash fan fiction, gay romance (most of which are also paranormal in nature), and urban fantasy are my favorite genres.

I am working on making pages for my favorite fan fictions, as well a book lists for my favorite authors/books under the aforementioned genres. As I read a lot, it’s going to take me a while to finish those up. I am determined to at least update one new favorite read per day (fingers crossed).

I am also going to have pages for Anticipated Reads (aka my to-be-read pile), my foray into writing, and my job hunt/experiences on becoming an editor. My blog will also include updates of what I am doing, random streams of consciousness, and any thing that I think might be of interest to other people.

Be patient with me, as this is my first ever blog (and WordPress scares the daylights out of me).

Signing off,
